Instead of:

- Trillian, use Pidgin
- AntiVir, use Avast

:) That's all!

@name che: I know that many people's gut reaction is to shun Microsoft, but there is not another program that is as good as OneNote. Especially if you have a tablet PC.

As for web 2.0, I use online apps all of the time, but they are still fairly limited. Between being slow and having very few features, I just can't see replacing other things with online apps.

Similarly, my personal experience with open source software is not all too dissimilar from online apps; slow, few features...

Either way, I just don't think that there is anything better than the current Office 2007 suite, especially OneNote (did I mention that I like that program?). But, you are free to do whatever you want!

Microsoft!? Have you been held captive by Colombian guerrillas for the last six years? Does web 2.0 mean anything to you? How about open source software? Why spend money on a monopolistic bloated entity when you can get much better stuff for free? Get with the program dude.

Well...and what about software for learning purposes?

Fullrecall comes to my mind. http://www.fullrecall.com

And Supermemo with its incremental reading feature is pretty slick either.

I guess such kind of software is not for everybody, but I have found it essential myself - it's on my top 5.
