Hopefully by now, all three of my readers have realized that I have changed the theme for my site. And in case they didn’t, I am writing this post! So for starters, I need to give credit where credit is due. The original theme is 5thirtyone v2, which is a phenomenal theme on its own. I just needed to add my own little flavor and voila! I was further inspired by We Create Things and Garrett Dimon’s site.
However, not all of the new features of the site are entirely obvious. I am sure that you have noticed that the search and about links in the main menu do not open other pages, but instead use a little ajaxy goodness to deliver the info. And if you haven’t noticed that, then what are you waiting for?! Give them a whirl!
Now where it is a little more complicated is on the individual posts. To see posts that are similar, you just have to click on the word similar, next to the word meta. After a little ajax effect, the related posts will show up under the title of the current posts. Obviously, it doesn’t take a genius to figure this one out, but I just want to make sure that everyone can enjoy all of the benefits of this redesign. It is all about finding new and fresh content in a way that (at least to me) makes some sense.
Speaking of freshness, if you want to see some of the latest posts without scrolling past the comments to the bottom of the page, you only have to click on the plus sign (+) next to the word freshness. That’s right, not on the actual word, but the symbol (my communications professor from franklin college would flip out at that…). A list will magically slide out underneath ‘freshness’ and you can navigate from those pretty links. Hopefully some of these features will help you find more of my mediocre writing!
So that’s the design! I know it isn’t quite the new year yet, but I felt like changing now. Let me know how much you hate the design in the comments below!
I also want to mention that with this redesign, I also want the site to be more focused. I mean, I love the content now, but I think I need more design content and more random content. Hopefully, Chelsea will be writing a bit to fill up the random content (look for her writing in the ‘Nonsense’ category). As for the design bit, I plan on writing a nice tutorial series for fireworks, so keep your eyes peeled!
I know this is an old post I’m reviving from the depths of it’s grave, but I love the “|Edit” in your screen shot. I don’t see that on my side though, so is that something soon to come — giving all readers the ability to edit your posts!? SWEET!
