53 CSS Techniques - From Smashing Magazine
Post Info Thursday, January 18th, 2007 11:32 pm by J David Print Print this page

I ran across this post from Smashing Magazine and it is incredible. It is a collection of links to various CSS techniques, some of which I didn’t even know myself. I guess I am relatively new to CSS and the advanced world of web design, but I did not know how to do a lot of these things. It is definitely worth the read. You never know what you… didn’t know… or something like that.

For example, it never occurred to me to use the ‘visited’ pseudo class as more than just the color of the link. I mean, it is obvious to me now that it could be done, but I would never have thought of it on my own.

I also really like the link to the tutorial which explains how to achieve the ‘block hover effect,’ which apparently originated at Veerle’s site (that girl is cute and web savvy?… what a combo…). I could never get it to work, but now I have a fantastic tutorial at my disposal!

Block Hover Effect
The last thing I want to mention from this list is the very first item. It features the ‘CSS Navigation Technique‘ and it is a spectacular menu. In fact, my next free design will hopefully be featuring the techniques used for that menu, with the graphics customized, so keep your eye out for that one!

Thanks for the comments J David.

I found this post in my feedreader earlier and thought about referencing it.

53 techniques you can’t live without. I was going to drop the ‘can’t live without’ too. I can live without lots of things, most of all CSS techniques. Some nice tutorials nonetheless.
