New Plugin For j david macor.com: Show Top Commentators

04.22.07 Posted in News, Personal, Wordpress by jdmacor

WordpressMy first reaction to seeing the Show Top Commentators plugin was, “Is commentators really a word?… Seriously?…” But after I looked it up and found out that it was, I next thought, “Hey, this is a great plugin to show some love to people who comment on your site!” After all, a reader is essentially rewarded for commenting frequently on your blog; namely, a link! I mean, I offer advertisements here (none of which have been sold :( ) and this plugin gives my regular readers the same kind of exposure.

Now, I know that my site is not exactly a reader magnet (actually, my readership is downright anemic; I will soon be writing a post about that topic, that will be more like a call for help), but a link is a link. And for some reason, I have a Page Rank of 6 (who knows why…), so it has to count for something, right? Also the count is reset every month, so everybody will have a shot at getting on the list and right now, it seems that one comment can probably get you there… and 2 will secure your position! How pathetic is that… At any rate, I hope to see some great comments and I am sure you will enjoy the instant link!

Download the top commentators plugin.

Top Commentators is a really cool plugin. It gives your readers a sense of recognition for top commentators and something like a goal for those who want to be on top of the list.

Btw, a pagerank of 6 is quite an achievement. My blog’s been stucked on 4..hehe :D

  2. J David says:

I mean, it is an accomplishment, but it doesn’t necessarily make a difference. I suspect that I have a ton of links from my website templates that are out there, but people don’t really click on my name at the bottom… Hence, I have a very small number of readers. But whatever, at least you are a reader! Thanks!

  3. Commentators is a real word, but I’m pretty sure that it’s misused by this plugin – surely I’m commenting, not commentating, as I type this.
It’ll be interesting to read your ‘no traffic’ post though. I just helped a friend set up a tshirt blog, about a week ago, and he’s already averaging over 1000 visitors a day. I get loads of great feedback on wordpressguy, but a good day would be 100 visitors. Traffic is elusive stuff!

  4. J David says:

Tell me about it… I struggle with having any sort of regular traffic. But yeah, I always used to say commentors, but according to Firefox’s red squiggly line, that is definitely not a word…

  5. Linky Love says:

Commentatora is a femal commentator :-)

Ok, me gonna install this plugin thanks to David and:
    me have request for david:

Can you make me a cute n simple favicon for linkylove? Love your J avatar on Mybloglog.

  6. J David says:

Let me see what I can do about a little icon.

  7. [...] In his latest post : New Plugin For j david macor.com: Show Top Commentators, David tells you where to download the Show Top Commentators plugin: [...]

  8. Linky Love says:

    Thanks David ;-)

I also notice you have cute lill men next to the top commentators, so cute!

Anyways, just to let you know I credited you on my site for “your plugin”, you could make it yours if you standardise the cute icons in it, such a thingy sure get you Pagerank 7! (still no money I can hear you think…)

  9. Jaypee says:

Yeah, site traffic is indeed elusive. I used to average 1K unique visitors/day but when my blog was down several hours a day for almost a week, I lost a lot of traffic and readers. Hopefully I can rebuild momentum and regain those. :)

You’re posts are good stuff, that’s why I keep coming back for more. :D

  10. Comments for links that’s got to attract a few extra vistors, might have to add that myself.

  11. J David says:

@Linky Love: You know what linky? I just might edit the plugin to make those little icons appear and make that available for download. Great idea!

@Jaypee: That sucks about that down time. Was it your hosts problem or yours? Because, switching hosts might have been the way to go!

@Daniel: I don\’t know if it attracts extra visitors, but I can tell you that it has attracted quite a few more comments in the couple of days since I installed it.

  12. Hi J David,

First off, thanks for nominating me for a blogger award! It’s an honour!

Secondly, with a page rank of 6, I would’ve thought you could charge more for a ReviewMe review. Do you purposely keep your cost at $40?

  13. J David says:

I could, but I just want to write Reviews. Besides, I would feel like I was cheating someone, because my page rank and my technorati rank are deceiving… I should have more visitors given those rankings, but I don’t… I am going to write about it soon and will be asking for help

  14. I know what you mean. If someone wants my advice on their blog or website I’m happy to oblidge.

  15. Jaypee says:

The problem was with my previous host. I just recently moved to Dreamhost. :)

  16. Bob says:

Good to see there’s more people out there doing this. I presume you also dofollow?

  17. J David says:

Absolutely, Bob. I have a plugin to do it.

  18. Linky Love says:

    J David,

    You are welcome JD,

euhm, do I get a free favicon now?

    Have a nice day!

  19. [...] I got some inspiration this morning from an odd source: the free Boston daily called Metro. They were talking about a few gadget blogs with a slant for women. I thought that was a great idea. It does seem like the internet is a bit of a sausage fest and it was about time some women logged on. However, most of the things on the internet are still geared towards men, especially anything technical. But here I will give you a list of gadget blogs written with women in mind. Oh and don’t forget, the top commentators have reset (new month), so be sure to leave some feedback! [...]

  20. Court says:

This is a great thing to do and I’m glad that more and more people are doing it. My comments tripled when I installed it.

  21. MoneyNing says:

This is one of the best plugins I have installed in my blog. It encouraged many people to write comments and I hope it helps you too!

  22. This is a great plug in. As I love leaving comments in blogs, I really like the rankings. Comments make a blog more conversational. This is where the readers get to voice and perhaps offer an alternate view that may further engage the reader. Awesome idea!

    All the best!

  27. Yes, that is a useful plugin. But for the latest WP 2.5.1, is this still workable?

  28. I’m glad you found this plugin. I’ve just installed it in my poker strategy blog.

    Thanks for the tips!

  29. BingoLive says:

This tells the plugin about how often it should reset the comment count for users. For example: If you choose monthly, only comments from the current month will be counted towards a visitors comment count. If you use an integer such as 30, it will show all commentators for the last 30 days.

  30. Atniz says:

This plugin helped me to get loyal readers and commentators. It makes my blog lively.

  31. WP Daddy says:

Have just installed this plugin, so expect it would bring some discussion at http://www.wpdaddy.com/blog/ since it is still a ‘brand new’ blog :)

  32. Cathy says:

This is a sure shot way to get repeat traffic and spam free commenting.

A lot of commentators give priority to post comments on blogs that give some link love.

  33. Good article, I have bookmark your site.

  34. This is one of the best plugins in my collection. This make appreciation to commentators. I love it.
