We have had another week of some great design links. And actually, I have been starting to find more and more people actually discussing the reason and philosophy behind some of todays current design trends. This is a very exciting topic to me and one which I myself have started to dive into. At any rate, there are also several links here that feature some free photoshop download materials as well as the only wordpress theme generator out there:
- 7 Things you don’t see in Web 2.0 from Web 1.0: This is a great little article that brings up some aggravating memories of the types of things we used to see all over the web. Anybody remember the phrase, “Best Viewed In…”?
- Web 2.0 Badges – Free Download: I have downloaded these fine badges myself and actually used one in my post about girly gadget blogs. These Deziner Folio releases are definitely worth your time.
- Ultimate Web 2.0 Layer Styles – Free Download: Score another one for Deziner Folio. These are some great styles that you can apply to buttons and what not and get yourself a very easy web 2.0 look.
- Making Better Logos, Logotypes, and Typefaces: This article discusses the importance of typography and also better logo design in general. David Airey, I thought you might like this link!
- A complete list of web design galleries: I myself spend tons of time just looking through these galleries (sometime called style galleries) and they are just fantastic for finding inspiration. This is a great comprehensive list from the Web Design Blog of those galleries.
- Wordpress Theme Generator: Do you want a custom wordpress theme, but want no part of coding? Well than this tool is for you. You can actually create pretty decent things with the generator. I was actually surprised by some of the options and features.
Nice resources. Thanks for sharing, and BTW nice blog you got here. Keep up the good work
The typography article is fantastic as was the style list I didn’t realise how many of those style sites there were out there.
That WP Generator is quite clever, but the quality of the design it makes is a little poor! However, with work that probably has real potential – and would work very nicely integrated into the Wordpress.com platform..!
The list of CSS gallery links is fantastic, and it means I can get shot of a whole section of my bookmarks!
And Deziner Folio has become my newest read, so thanks for that too! I like it because – fundamentally – I’m a lazy guy, and DZ seem to have done loads of stuff that will ultimately save me work, which is good.
Met any more celebs today? :p
I think David Airey didn’t like that article!
But I did.. thanks!
Thanks for the support on my logo/typeface article, if i hadn’t seen the linkback i might not have found your wonderful site!
Hi ilker,
Why didn’t you think I liked the article?
I just tried posting a comment over there but I’m not sure if it worked. I basically said it’s an interesting read, although I’m not a fan of the logo chosen to illustrate the point about detail. It won’t reduce well and for me there’s too much detail. More simplistic would work better.
Thanks for the link J David! I’m glad you made it .com and not .com/blog as I’ve just moved and haven’t yet figured out how to re-direct!
@Payment Blogger: Thanks very much! I hope you continue to be a reader here!
@Tim Nash: I didn’t even realize how many there were. I usually frequent about 2-3 that were on that list.
@Paul Enderson: Yeah, the WP generator makes some pretty simple themes, but with that as a base, it can be easier to customize afterwards. PS, I have not seen a celeb today
@The Thinking Blog: Really, he didn’t like it? Huh…
@Alex: I actually just saw your article today. It was great!
@David Airey: I didn’t think you would like that particular logo example; when he started talking about complexity, I thought he might lose you. But overall, I thought it was a good read.
Haha, you know me well J David!
Thanks again.
David Airey, that was my article. Glad you read it! I choose that logo only because it easily illustrated the point of detail with the one placed dot. I know there are many much better logos i could have chosen but i felt that one fit with the paragraph.
And J david, which part about complexity? Just wondering so maybe i can improve
But anyway, thanks for the read.
J David,
Thanks for the links, I will have to spend some time reading in a little bit!
