ThoofIf you are like me, you need to keep up with the latest news from around the world. Personally, I like to read about business and international news; and Thoof can give me personalized news that is targeted to my interests. If you are tired of services like Digg and Newsvine, you should definitely look into Thoof.

How It Works

Basically, you can just start reading the news as soon as you sign up for your account. Thoof starts learning your preferences while you are reading; or rather, based on what you read. If you don’t like the looks of an article, just tell Thoof and it will continue to learn. There is no need to vote up an article either; Thoof just tries to present you with news that you will find most interesting.

You can submit stories that you feel are newsworthy as well as edit captions of other stories. There is even a “favorites” feature that allows you to save a list of stories for later use.

Design

Thoof’s design is nothing to write home about, but it certainly doesn’t offend. The color scheme is based around a simple green and there are not too many fancy elements everywhere. In fact, what I like the most about this design is that it doesn’t get in the way. This is a key element for a news driven site; you don’t want the design to get in the way of the actual news.

Another noticeable element is the heavy use of ajax. Now, I did not say that it was too much; but even signing up is a series of ajax functions. Hiding stories and favoriting others all happens without refreshing the page. This design sports the trifecta of web 2.0 design: simple design, clever logo and loads of ajax.

Conclusion

I don’t have much to say other than I really like this site. I get the relevant news without the overwhelming sense that the masses are telling me what I should like the best. So give Thoof a try for personalized news.
