Pranking The Firefox Team

06.24.08 Posted in Sidenotes by jdmacor

It seems like the folks over at the Microsoft Internet Explorer development team have started a kind of tradition. When Firefox 2 shipped, the development team at Mozilla received a cake with a giant IE logo. Now that Firefox 3 has shipped, low and behold, the offices at Mozilla received another cake…

    This is great !

“Mmm cake looks yummy on the “outside” but who knows what ingredients were used. Hmm….. could be deceiving like IE and all its security issues. Good luck IE!!! Hope things work out for you.”

  9. good luck IE!!! Hope things work out for you

  10. I think instead of wasting time with cakes, IE should spend some more time trying to catch up to Firefox. In a relatively short period of time, Firefox has built a much better web browser. It doesn’t seem like IE really has an answer to it.

Very good idea this big cake!

It is great to see that two competing companies can have a sense of humor. Too bad Firefox will always be superior to IE.

You are absolutely right, we hope Firefox will take bigger cake in the future!

  16. I like Firefox, it has helped me stop the attack of many bugs. It is excellent.

  17. WinkHealth says:

Hahaha.. It is hilarious.. same with PC and Apple..

  18. Damn, its good :) Nice tradition to have, seems like IE keeps a close eye on their competitors achievements, but I advise them to focus on their own success, improvement, progress rather than their competitors, but thats just my humble opinion :)

  20. It’s open source, that means anyone who wants to can supply code. There is a forum with listed bugs, and wanted features, where you can make suggestions or offer fixes. The actual group that finalizes the releases is probably less than a 100.

  21. data analizi says:

    interesting idea. it may work.

  22. ??????? says:

Hehehe. Real funny idea. And what did mozilla for IE bithday?

    Happy holiday :)

  23. Why did u so that? Can u explain it for me please. Im waiting email. thanks.

  24. Haha.. I like the cake. It should be very exciting to work at firefox and expecting a cake everytime a release happens.

Haha.. I really like the cake. It should be very exciting to work for firefox and expect a cake with every release :)

  26. Would you actually eat a cake that your main competitor sends as a gift? I’d be a little worried about them trying to give my staff food poisoning. It might be the only way IE will be able to compete with Firefox.

  27. vigrxplus says:

    LOL very funny cake tradition!

    very funny cake tradition! LOL

  29. I wonder how much microsoft had to shell out for a fancy cake like that. I wouldn’t really consider it much of a prank though. It is just a company needlessly buying their top competitors a cake. I have a feeling that the Firefox team won’t be wasting money like that each time a new version of IE comes out.

  30. Both IE & Firefox are very good browser, but now I’m fully depend upon Firefox.
